Eggplants are highly perishable vegetables that face significant postharvest challenges due to their high respiration rate and delicate structure. Their glossy skin and fresh green calyx are key quality indicators that deteriorate rapidly after harvest. Effective eggplant packaging should address these challenges.

Xtend® bulk packaging with modified atmosphere and modified humidity properties help preserve fresh quality by creating an environment inside the closed packaging that slows respiration, reduces dehydration and inhibits ethylene. High-water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) films are available to help release excess moisture, which also assists in reducing the risk of microbial decay.

Xtend® also provides companies receiving the produce in eggplant packaging with greater flexibility; they can store for longer and supply upon demand, knowing the eggplants will arrive in prime condition to their customers. This lean and sustainable eggplant packaging is created from 17-20 μm gauge that can optionally be produced with 30% chemically recycled content.
